The Kenya Revenue Authority recently issued a directive on declaration of valuable items you intend to return with to Kenya after your departure. Here is the simple process and my experience.
- Write a letter detailing the equipment you intend to leave the country with. Include serial numbers if possible. Here is a template you can download. Download
- Go to KRA Customs Office at JKIA’s Terminal 1A and present the letter to the Officials there.
- You will be directed to pay Kshs760/- at National Bank which is right next to the Customs Office. I paid cash. I am not sure if Mpesa payments are accepted.
- Get your receipt and letter stamped.
- Fly out.
- Return.
- Show your list and receipt to the KRA Customs Officials if they ask about your equipment.
