Sara and Blackman make a glorious combination. It was the first time I was seeing Sara perform since 2007 and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Kavutha’s cameo was my most memorable moment of the night. The guy on lights was a bit stingy on the watts.

elani in concert
Photography is painting with light. And when there is no or limited lighting, photography becomes a challenge. And to overcome the challenge, I’m forced to shoot at very high ISOs which introduces noise that ruins the music. (Get it?) What I love about Elani is that they have fun when doing what they love.
groove awards 2011
At the 2009 Groove Awards is where I believe I discovered my skills in concert photography. I’ve become a regular attendee since. Mo Sound do a great job in putting the event together. Their level of professionalism is impeccable. My only suggestion is they move the red carpet to a place where we photographers don’t …
mission katsangani 2011
You won’t find it on Google Maps, so here goes: Drive 80km north of Malindi to a trading centre called Mwenda Pole. Board a boda boda and after about 20 minutes, you’ll be in the heart of Katsangani, an island in the Tana Delta. I was here in 2010 to spread the Gospel with the …
Gentleman’s A-ffair
Asiyo, Aceda and Adwar on one stage. It’s got to be the Gentleman’s A-ffair.
sofapaka vs sony
Friends like Mavuno’s Kenyatta Otieno are God-sent. He always tells me when there’s a big game happening. He’s such a football fan – a true Sofapaka fan. Sofapaka (my team) met Sony today in a Super 8 duel which they won 2-1. Didn’t snap many great photos tonight but I’m happy I got to click …
nairobi by night
September 2007 was the first time I took photos of Nairobi by night. I hooked up with Fadzter, Makumi, Francuso and Ken, got a 2-day shooting permit for Kshs10,000/- from DFS, informed the cops at Central Police and over a Friday and Saturday night, walked around Nairobi CBD taking photos. We had so much fun …
The Villagers Band Live at Burudani
This has got to be the most jamming I’ve done in a while. At some point I had to put my camera down and join in the dancing. What I love about The Villagers is that they entertain without gimmicks like ‘Weka mikono juu!’ and ‘Everybody to the left… to the right…’ And begenge has …
Sol Filosofia Launch Concert
I purchased this album at Aaron’s All That Jazz gig in January and it’s been on replay ever since. My favourite track is Sol Generation – it thumps in my head many times each week.
supersport dstv cup
I’m still fine-tuning my skills in sport photography. A lesson I have come to embrace is ‘Position yourself at one place and patiently wait for the action to come to you.’ If you move from place to place, you won’t get good shots. The sun was shining today allowing faster shutter speeds at low ISOs, …
sofapaka vs aviacao
I’m glad I carried my 70-200 f/2.8L with me today. After the first half, the heavens opened up and as it poured, all lighting disappeared. The 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS was of no use. Thank God for the superior weather sealing on the 7D and L lenses. I had to venture out of the pervious shelter I …
All That Jazz
This is my first musical gig this year. Before the year ends, I want to take my concert photography to the next level. I feel I have sort of stagnated and need more divine creativity to get to where no one else has been.
kanjii vs eric round two
Their first battle about two years ago was quite an entertainer. Today’s was epic. Two of Kenya’s top performers, each with their own bands, on one stage? I didn’t expect anything less.
kidepo live
Whether you attended the show or not, you need to get Qwela’s album Kidepo. They are definitely Uganda’s finest Afro fusion group – hands down!
Deitrick Haddon Live
Quite humbled by Pastor Deitrick’s humility. He chose a local band and musicians to back him up!
namenge and vusi
God is God. Yaani… I got to Lake Naivasha Country Club at 11am for a wedding that was to start at 3pm. The weather was beautiful until the clouds invaded and the rain poured. Heavily. There were some delays in the start of the ceremony so by the time we were going for the photo …
afc vs sofapaka
If you haven’t been to a floodlit KPL game, you are missing on the most fun 100/- can get you. When you finally do, don’t go to the hoity toity VIP section; ask to be directed to ‘Russia’. You will enjoy being with the ardent fans and will laugh at the comments they direct towards …
Benganology Launch
The first time I met Chizi was in 2007 when he was leading worship at Mavuno Downtown. He was different. Through his leadership, worship was real. I’m not a Premier League fan but loved how he started worship with a recap of Saturday’s big games. Then in 2008 I bought his debut album Suluwe and …
the emmanuel jal shoot
Prayer works. It really does. A few minutes before Jal’s arrival at the KWELI offices, the flash on my 7D jammed. I needed it to remotely trigger my 430 EX speedlight. Nothing I did was working so I decided to make my faith practical. Wycliffe placed his hands on the camera and a few mintes …
Love is Kenya Concert
Since my beloved isn’t around, I celebrated my love for photography at Love is Kenya. I’ve never taken photos at the National Museum. I think this was the first gig being held here. The organisers did a great job with the lighting. The musicians were even better on stage.
