2025 Absa Kip Keino Classic

I had a ‘front row seat’ at the sixth edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic and out of 2,936 images shot, these were my finest captures.

Part of the Continental Tour Gold series by World Athletics, this year’s Absa Kip Keino Classic was held at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi. Absa Kenya were the title sponsors and gave Kshs 60 million towards this competition.

Shot Put, Men

This was a National Event and was won by George Malala who threw a personal best of 16.66.

Hammer Throw, Men

Ethan Katzberg of Canada threw a world lead distance of 82.73 to take top honours.

Javelin Throw, Men

Luiz Mauricio Da Silva of Brazil, with a personal best throw of 86.34 emerged tops in this year’s competition.

10,000m Men

This was another National event that saw Silas Senchura run fastest clocking 28:18.46.

400m Hurdles, Men

Kenya’s Wiseman Were run a personal best time of 48.34, narrowly edging out Botswana’s Kemorena Tisang who finished second with a personal best of 48.59.

400m Women

Kenya’s Mercy Oketch run a personal best of 50.14 to cross the finish line ahead of seven other competitors.

400m Men, Heat B

Kenya’s Brian Onyari Tinega with a personal best of 45.06 emerged tops in this race.

5,000m Women

Uganda’s Sarah Chelangat outpaced the field clocking 15:03.33, a clean 11 seconds ahead of the second finisher.

400m Men, Heat A

South Africa’s Zakithi Nene finished first with a world lead time of 43.76.

5,000m Men

Ethiopia’s Hailemariyam Amare took top honours after running 13:34.02 and edging out fellow countryman Zenebe Ayele Tadesse by 0.00.84

400m Hurdles, Women

Norway’s Amalie Iuel crossed the finish line first with a meet record of 54.80.

3,000m Steeplechase, Men

With a time of 8:27.68, Edmund Serem kept Kenya’s glory holding off Ethiopians who finished 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Hammer Throw, Women

With a season’s best of 77.93, Camryn Rodgers out threw her competitors to finish tops as did her countryman Ethan Katzberg who won the men’s competition.

Long Jump Women

Egypt’s Esraa Owis leapt over all her competitors to score a jump of 6.94 metres.

800m Women

Kenya’s Lilian Odira outpaced other runners to finish with a personal best time of 1:58.31.

200m Men

Despite finishing first, Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh seemed not too happy with his time as he avoided meeting the press after his race.

1,500m Men

Kenya’s domination of the middle distances continued with Abel Kipsang finishing first in 3:35.09 leading a 1, 2, 3, 4 Kenyan podium.

3,000m Steeplechase Women

With a personal best time of 9:30.68 Asefa Wosane led an Ethiopian 1-2-3 finish.

100m Women

With a winning time of 11.21, Liberia’s Maia McCoy outrun her compatriot Destiny Smith-Barnett by 0.08.

800m Men

I too thought he was Kenyan but USA’s Jonah Koech won the race with a personal best time of 1:43.32.

1,500m Women

Ethiopia’s Abera Hawi beat Kenya’s Purity Chepkirui at the finish line as she clocked 4:06.52.

100m Men

From down under, Lachlan Kennedy was over the top with is personal best finish of 9.98, ahead of South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza 10.03 and Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala 10.07.
