I’m a firm believer that content is more important than tools used to create it. So when I as a Sony shooter had the opportunity to attend a Canon Masterclass with one of the top wildlife photographers around, I forfeited sleep and a warm bed to be at the Nairobi National Park before 6am.
Before the 6am meeting time, Jonathan was already at the NNP gate sharing stories from his decades in wildlife photography with Kenyan photographers and photography enthusiasts.
At around 7am and with possibly the heaviest cloud cover I’ve seen this year, we drove into the Park, not expecting to shoot much because the light wasn’t the best.
We made our way to the Ivory Burning Picnic Site where I got to take these shots of Jonathan with a sculpture commemorating the 1989 ivory burn by President Moi.
We then headed to Impala Observation Point, the highest point in NNP.
I called upon the Sigma 150-600mm to get a closer look at these rhinos that appeared as specs of mud in the green plains below to the naked eye.
We later had breakfast at Wildly and called it a morning.
In the evening, I attended a presentation of Jonathan and Angela Scott’s latest works in the Louis Leakey Auditorium at the National Museum.
Listen to Jonathan share some photography and life tips in the video below.
