Africa from the Air, Abuja – Nairobi

Flying presents one with an opportunity to see the world in a whole new perspective. In the few minutes before going above the clouds, I keep myself entertained trying to name the minuscule collection of buildings and highways. Then above the clouds, a new beauty awaits, with clouds of all shapes and sizes scattered across the horizon.

In mid September, I was blessed to take two flights, one from Abuja to Nairobi, and the following day Nairobi to Nanyuki. I managed to get a window seat both times and armed with my 60D and 24-105mm f/4 L IS, shot away from take off to landing.

This is just after taking off from Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. I failed in trying to figure out what town and highway these were.

As we approached cruise altitude, the clouds started changing.

I believe this was as we flew over Cameroon.

This cloud popping above the others was too beautiful not to shoot.

Our flight path took us over the Ruwenzori Mountains in western Uganda. The sun was heading to Chiolu and made the clouds even more dramatic.

I was flying the Pride of Africa.

As we crossed into Kenya, dusk set in and with it, colours too amazing to describe.

The next morning, I was at Wilson Airport, ready to board an Air Kenya flight to Nanyuki. More about that later this week.
