Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, Homa Bay is a town that has somehow managed to lag behind while the rest of the country moved ahead. So many years after independence, the tourism potential in this town remains untapped.
Every evening, the sun puts up a majestic show with the background of the surrounding hills. Sadly, the only place you can enjoy it is at the pier used by cargo ships ferrying commodities to and from other ports in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It’s a spectacle you can take in as you enjoy sugar cane from the hawkers at the pier. Homa Bay lacks a decent hotel as the existing ones have low quality standards yet struggle to meet demand over the weekend.
Here’s to hoping a lake-side resort will find its way to Homa Bay.
