African Screens 21 – Nairobi Dusk

When travelling across Eastern Africa during the #OnetouchLive photographic road trip from Nairobi to Bujumbura, we got many opportunities to compare Nairobi to other regional capitals.

Evening traffic in Kampala.

We got to discover a beauty of Kampala that we didn’t know existed. Wide tree-lined streets, impressive architecture and a vibrance that is second only to Nairobi’s. It’s traffic however, that needs serious attention.

Kigali-1

Kigali… Oh Kigali. Now this is a city I can easily move to and make my home. The beauty about Kigali is that just like the rest of the country, the residents own it. Everyone makes it their duty to keep it clean and orderly. In Nairobi, that is the responsibility of the local government and police. Nairobi, we need to learn from Kigali.

Bujumbura-1

Bujumbura has a while to go before it catches up with the other cities. You can compare it with Kisumu for size and heat, plus they are both on the shores of huge lakes. We had problems finding an ATM that takes Visa in Bujumbura. On the bright side, its beaches are some of the finest inland beaches you’ll find in Africa. More about those beaches shortly.

This week’s wallpaper is a dedication to the City of Nairobi. My home and the region’s economic hub.

  1. Your photos are beautiful, they make one imagine what’s like to be there without words
