Shooting Kenya’s General Elections

19.6 million Kenyans registered to vote at this year’s General Elections. Before most of them got in line, I visited two polling centres in Nairobi to see how the day had started.

First was Moi Avenue Primary School where Kenyans had been lining up since the previous night to make sure they were first in line to cast their ballots.

The lines from the previous night and early morning had been orderly until the polling centre was opened and some late comers forced themselves through the gate, causing a stampede that left a few people injured.

First Aiders were quick to respond and help the injured.

Next, I joined fellow photographers at Uhuru Park to capture the sunrise but the cloud cover had other plans.

Nairobi looks beautiful no matter the weather. The image above is a panoramic stitch of 22 individual images.

Our final stop was the NSSF Grounds Polling Centre on Loita Street.

Queues were much shorter than at the last elections thanks to great voter management by the IEBC.
