BMXing on the Helipad

A quiet day at the office yesterday was interrupted by a pat on my shoulder by Allan Gichigi. He’d been invited to see some BMX riders doing their thing on the KICC Helipad. I quickly cleared my schedule and tagged along. I didn’t have my camera on me, only my Xperia Z1 which I decided to shoot with.

All these images were shot using my phone and edited in Snapseed.

There had been a slight drizzle a few minutes before we got to the Helipad. When it ended, the clouds diffused the light for a great view of Nairobi.

Puddles on the Helipad came in handy for this. The Xperia Z1 is water proof so I was able to immerse it in the puddle to shoot Alberto from really low.

The first few minutes were spent mopping the Helipad. It had to be super dry for Alberto and Viki to pull their moves.

These guys move really fast. The XperiaZ1’s fast aperture allowed me to freeze the motion with no blurs even in the cloudy situation we had.

Check out Viki on Instagram. He is on a tour of Africa with Red Bull.

For someone who is very afraid of heights, I was awed at what Viki and Alberto could do. All the best as you continue with your tour.

    Really nice shots Mwav,

I feel they would have been more dramatic at sunset, but with the cloud cover this days what are the chances of that happening.

These are amazing pictures and such a great idea 🙂
I wanted to find out, were there costs of photography on the helipad if you were using your phone?

Hi. Last I checked it was Kshs150.00 per adult to go up. If you have a professional camera in tow, the fee goes up to about Kshs7,000.00 or thereabouts.
