African Screens 18 – Lake Bunyonyi
Located in South Western Uganda, Lake Bunyonyi had been described to us as the most beautiful lake in Uganda. We had to stop here before going to Rwanda during our #OnetouchLive photographic road trip from Nairobi to Bujumbura.
After travelling on winding roads from Masaka, we got to Lake Bunyonyi’s shores in the dark of night. We were camping on Bushara, one of its 29 islands and had to take a boat to get there. At night, all is dark, apart from the starry skies and lights from lodges on the shores. We couldn’t understand what the fuss was about Bunyonyi’s beauty until morning when we woke up to shoot the sunrise.
All was still, all was calm. We even whispered to each other, not wanting to disturb the peaceful beauty. We understood why this caldera lake is described as Uganda’s most beautiful.
