Kash and Patricia

This has got to be one of the most fun weddings I’ve had the privilege of shooting!

Kash and Patricia made us so comfortable working with them, we felt like honoured guests at their wedding. And what an honour it was to cover their nuptials. Theirs was also special for me as it was the first wedding I was covering with a ring on my finger.

The story starts on February 12th this year with a call from Patricia. We got talking on email and they booked us for their 4th May wedding.

It wasn’t however until five days before their wedding when we first met. We only had this one meeting and totally understood they were a fun couple. We celebrated the brief and waited for their big day.

What struck me most about Patricia was how relaxed she was as a bride. She was also quite jovial as she did the makeup for all her maids!

Allan Gichigi is a brother I highly respect as a photographer and I had the pleasure of working with him on this day. On Kash’s side, he was also having a ball, as the photos below will testify. Check out more of his amazing work on his site.

The church service was at St Austin’s which I’d never shot at before. I respect the sanctity of places of worship so shooting was quite discreet, with no use of flash except when looking for certain effects. I was mostly on the 50mm f/1.4 because lighting wasn’t plenty.

We originally wanted to have the photo session in the CBD but when we thought of Saturday end month traffic into town from Westlands, we had to look for an alternative. None had been found by the wedding day so we decided to pick a random location along James Gichuru, by the bridge before Muthangari Police Station. Goes to show you can have your photos almost anywhere really!

At the end of the reception at Loreto Msongari, we had another photo session from an idea that started as a joke as we shared as Allan and I enjoyed lunch with Jemedari who were on video. The last photos herebelow turned out to be some of our favourite photos of the day.

Many thanks to Wamuyu Kiragu – a very promising photographer – who assisted with the strobing in all my shots. Check out her work here and follow her on Twitter.
